Ladies Bowling Event is a success
BOSKRUIN – Ladies tournament takes place at Randburg Bowls Club where friendly competition and the skills required to play the sport are celebrated.
On 11 April, the Randburg Bowls Club hosted their annual ladies tournament for the second year running.
Women from Johannesburg and the West Rand came together in a celebration of the sport and friendly competition. The tournament was very well-attended with 112 women showing up to put their skills to the test, despite the threat of rain.
“Randburg Bowls Club is a vibrant, dynamic, yet competitive bowls club that caters for all levels of bowlers. This tournament is just one of the many activities that we put on every year to attract new bowlers to this challenging sport. We offer free coaching, and are attracting younger members all the time. We will welcome anybody wanting to join the club, whether a novice or an experienced bowler,” said Estelle Greyling, ladies club captain and head of the organising committee. The tournament catered for all and included a blind bowler as well as some bowlers with other disabilities.
The winners of the tournament and the R4 000 cash prize was Bryanston Country Club made up of members Penny Davidoff, Jenny Regan, Carol Strodl and Jenny Bowden. The runners-up was Old Parks who pocketed R2 000 and consisted of team members Colleen Taylor, Maureen Tanner, Carole Gray and Gill Moncur. The final was so tight that the winners were chosen by virtue of shot aggregate.
