Police open fire on suspected hijackers in Blairgowrie

BLAIRGOWRIE – A shoot-out occurred between police and suspected hijackers.


BLAIRGOWRIE – A shoot-out occurred between suspected hijackers and police in the early hours of 12 April.

According to Linden Police spokesperson Constable Takalani Matumba, police spotted suspicious men driving in a white a Volkswagen SUV, and kept a close observation of the vehicle.

Police followed the vehicle to the corner of Conrad Drive and Kangnussie Road.

Matumba said, “Shots were fired and one suspect was fatally shot while two sustained injuries and were taken to hospital under police guard. Two other suspects were arrested without injuries.

“Police have been investigating and searching for suspects since receiving a number of reports recently of hijackings in Linden and surrounds.”

Matumba added that the arrested suspects are facing charges of attempted hijacking, possession of hijacked vehicle and possession of unlicensed firearms.

“They will be appearing at Randburg Magistrates’ Court in due course,” said Matumba.
