Centenarian Margaret Watt-Pringle celebrates this milestone
Margaret Watt-Pringle celebrates 100 years of life on the first of April. The love and joy which surrounds her however is no joke!
Centenarian Margaret Watt-Pringle’s arrival for her birthday festivities was eagerly anticipated.
Family members from all over and residents of the Silver Stream Retirement Village in Randpark trickled to the outside venue while awaiting the guest of honour. There was a tangible bubble of excitement enveloping the venue as the pensioners flooded the location for the party more rapidly with time. Cheery exclamations of “Good morning!” filled the air. Everyone was ready to celebrate the century Watt-Pringle has walked the earth.
The tables beneath the Perspex awning were set in honour of Watt-Pringle and were decorated with table settings and colourful tablecloths. Spencer Pringle is the first to arrive of her family members with a friendly disposition and a wide grin. In good spirits, he was met by various members of the home with congratulatory hugs, heartfelt kisses and well wishes for his mother. Brother Julian Pringle reflected that his mother has spent over 17 years living at Silver Stream before living in Botswana with Spencer, only to return to the home’s frail care unit.
“She loves it here,” Julian said.
Watt-Pringle was born and lived most of her life in Zimbabwe and has friends all over the world.
Vaughn Pringle arrives amidst the heightened excitement and had only good things to say about his mother’s health, “She’s always been very healthy and has never had a heart attack or anything like that.”
Watt-Pringle takes no medication, besides vitamins. All three brothers agree that their mother has had a ‘hard life’ but the secret to her longevity is her determination.
“She doesn’t give up – she will never give up. My mother is an amazing woman! Maybe she will make it to 110, we don’t know!” joked Julian.
The guest of honour arrived with a parade of women in a variety of uniforms surrounding her wheelchair descent, clapping along to the birthday cheers. Seated at the head of the family designated table, Watt-Pringle is elated to see family members she hasn’t seen in years while exclaiming, “Miracles happen every day!”
Although Watt-Pringle celebrates her birthday on the 1st April, she is no April fool.
