Petrol increase adjusted even higher, consumers to be hit hard in April

Consumers will be hit hard in April as the petrol hike and new electricity tariff increase set to tighten the budget.

Motorists and consumers will be hit hard on 3 April as petrol is set to increase by R1.34 and diesel by 81.70 cents.

The initial announcement was that petrol will increase by R1.27 and diesel by 77 cents. The increase comes from fuel taxes and a weaker rand, according to unaudited month-end fuel price data released by the Central Energy Fund. Illuminating paraffin will also increase by 55 cents per litre.

Petrol will now cost R15.49 and diesel R16.13 a litre, motorists will be paying more than R60 more every month for a weekly fill up. On top of that, the electricity tariff will also go up by 13.8 per cent from the start of the new month.

Share your thoughts on what you would rather spend that R60 on.
