Missing planes, suicidal pilots and indecent outfits, these are some of our recent top five bizarre aircraft stories.


The recent aircraft disasters around the world have left many people baffled and scratching their heads, asking questions of how some of these events happened.   

Here are our top five bizarre aircraft stories:

1.  Suicidal pilot crashes into Botswana clubhouse in an attempt to kill his wife and friends.

Allegedly the drunk pilot had a heated argument with his wife during a party at a clubhouse in the Rasesa area, Gaborone on 24 March. He was thrown out after he allegedly hit her. Incredibly, he took a privately owned aircraft and allegedly crashed it into the clubhouse with the intention to kill his wife and others there. The pilot was found dead on the scene.

2. Flight intended to land in Germany ends up in Scotland.

Passengers on a British Airways flight departed on 25 March expecting to land in Germany but they ended up in London because an incorrect flight plan was accidentally given. Both the pilot and crew thought the flight was headed to Dusseldorf in Germany.

3. Rising football star Emiliano Sala plane crash.

Sala was destined to sign for English premier league side Cardiff City in Wales, he organised his own flight from Nantes, France to sign the new contract deal on 22 January 2019, but sadly he never made it. According to investigators, it is unclear if the pilot David Ibbotson was scheduled to fly the aircraft, neither his pilot logbook or licence was recovered. Sala’s body was found nearly two weeks after the crash, Ibbotson body has still not been recovered.

4. MH370 disappearance five years on, where is it?

On March 8, 2014, Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 vanished while en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing which caused the biggest hunt in aviation history. Fragments of the plane have been found in parts on the western Indian Ocean but nor the passengers or crew have been found.

5. Thomas Cook Airline asks a female passenger to cover up for ‘inappropriate’ attire.

Emily O’Connor, a 21-year-old, boarded a flight from Birmingham to Tenefirie in England, when she was told that her crop top was inappropriate and was threatened to be offloaded.
