Cooper College supports the Cansa foundation

NORTH RIDING – Learners and parents support Cooper College to raise lots of funds.

Cooper College and Magic Beings decided to support the Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) once again by hosting shavathons at their respective school premises on 8 March. This year was Cooper College’s third year running.

Cooper College and Magic Beings managed to raise R36 000 for Cansa through parents and learners who got up bright and early to raise funds by shaving or spraying their heads and staff members volunteered to help do it for them.

Most of the learners decided to go the more colourful root and sprayed a variety of colours on their hair. The teachers also supported the cause and sprayed their own hair in funky colours.

The younger learners at Cooper College also participated and sprayed their hair a rainbow of colours. The day was spent with big smiles and a lot of money rolling in from the generous participants who bought a stock like armbands, head wraps or monetary donations that were given to the school. They had one amazing donation – they received a ponytail from one of the participants.

“For the school, it was a chance to get involved with the community and to raise funds for this illness that affects so many. As a school we have been exposed to cancer among our staff members and learners, any change we get to help out we’ll take it,” said Lee-Ann Coetzee, head of marketing.
