Give these great dogs a place to call home

DELTA PARK – Through her efforts, Nadine van Zyl has managed to find homes for three shelter dogs, and some of them need your help.

DELTA PARK – Through her time spent with various dogs from Community Lead Animal Welfare (Claw), Nadine van Zyl has managed to help several dogs get adopted.

She did this through spending an afternoon with the shelter dog at a local park and documenting it via Facebook and Instagram as a way to call the community to action and compel them to adopt the dog in need of a home.

Van Zyl shares her list of loveable pooches that have either been adopted or have their adoption pending due to her efforts.

These are the six dogs she has thus far spent time with:

Max

Is looking for a home. He still a very young husky cross pup with a unicorn horntail. His favourite thing to do is play and he loves people and other dogs. He will play with anything and anyone. On one of his adventures, he chased a hadeda. Max seems like he will have loads of fun in the water as he splashed around in his water bowl. This adorable boy also enjoys being close to people and snuggling when it’s nap time.

Betty

Is also looking for a home, she is soft natured, middle-aged (roughly 4 to 5 years of age) medium girl. She has a birth defect on her front paw and at times ran like a true Paralympian. Her soft, warm-hearted face more than made up for her missing paw. Due to this, they made a lot of rest stops, as she is not used to walking long distances, but she equally loved to roll around in the long cool grass. Betty gets along really well with other dogs – even busy little puppies like Max. She is also really good with children, and always happy to greet any new face willing to give a little love.

Jake

He is roughly eight months old and is pending adoption. He takes being a silly pup very seriously. This keen and resourceful adventurer found the thickest and longest sticks to play with. He did some exploring on and off-leash and every now and then demanded some treats and playtime. This cutie is a quick learner and will adapt to any situation. After trying his best to be cautious he landed his bum in the water, but luckily he had no problem with that.

Toffee

Despite not really having a name, she reacted very quickly to the one we gave her. Toffee is roughly a one-year-old pup. She was a bit nervous and scared of the car ride at first and snuggles while en route. She was off-leash for most of her day out, but never wandered too far, often circling back after scouting ahead and never disobeying a call to return in the odd occasion she wandered a little farther ahead than usual. This floppy eared princess is way too clever to get her paws wet, using stepping stones to cross streams or taking slight detours to find a bridge. This gorgeous girl absolutely loves hugs and cuddles, during her time at the park she made sure to remind us of this.

Jack

Now adopted, he is a sweet boy and doesn’t have a care in the world. Jack had no issue getting into the car. Jack’s mission was to greet literally every person and every dog at the park. He is extremely good on and off-leash and listens very well. He has an easy going personality and will adapt easily to any situation. Jack didn’t care much for getting into the water. She had to carry him over the stream to get to a nice shaded area where he played and demanded some love. This boy is incredibly smart. It didn’t take him long to figure out where she was hiding the treats.

Sparkles

This well-mannered Border collie-cross is now adopted. He was named Spark for short as he is an energetic ball of soft fluffy fur. Sparkles is a curious explorer and loves giving kisses. He is very good with children and other furry friends, including kitties. He made loads of friends on their adventure, big and small. He is house trained and this playful boy loves jumping like a bunny, but never up against people.

Sparkles makes a great hiking and jogging companion. He definitely doesn’t have a fear of water as he walked into it without any hesitation. He wasn’t too keen to get into the car at first, but was a very good passenger. After his park adventure, he easily got back into the car. Between all the exploring he made some time for belly scratches and silliness on the grass.
