Randburg’s Operation Buya Mtheto a success

RANDBURG – The police held a successful Buya Mtheto operation.

RANDBURG – The police, Metro police, Gauteng traffic officers and private security companies embarked on a successful early morning operation on 1 March in the Randburg policing area as part of Operation Buya Mtheto.

Randburg Police Station spokesperson Captain Makgowanyana Maja said, “The purpose of the operation was to reduce the crime in the area through multi-disciplinary tactics, where the focus was on illegal firearms, drugs, possession of stolen property, and more.”

The officers were under the command of Randburg Station Commander Brigadier Michelle Jones and the operation comprised of roadblocks and stop-and-searches.

According to Maja, 237 vehicles and 569 occupants were searched, and 28 fines were issued for the contravention of road traffic acts.

Another eight suspects were arrested for various crimes including possession of drugs and sexual assault.

“In another success, our detectives managed to track down a suspect for a murder that allegedly happened in the early hours of this morning at one of the restaurants in Bryanston.

“The police were called to the hospital for a complaint of assault. On their arrival, the case docket was opened as the victim was being treated. Unfortunately, the victim succumbed to the injuries and passed away. The motive is unknown as yet,” Maja said.

The officers engaged in preliminary investigations and tracked the suspect to the Douglasdale area.

“He was arrested and is expected to appear in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court with all other suspects on Monday after being formally charged,” Maja concluded.
