City Power is working hard to restore post-loadshedding power outages – MMC De Jager

JOHANNESBURG – City Power is aware of the increased power outages that have hit some areas of Joburg North, including Linden, Parkhurst, Blackheath and Robin Hill.

City Power is aware of the ongoing outages that plaque certain areas of Johannesburg, especially Linden, Parkhurst, Blackheath and Robin Hills.

This is according to a statement issued by the MMC for Environment and Infrastructure Services, Cllr Nico de Jager.

He further stated, “We apologise for the continued discomfort that our residents are experiencing as a result of these outages.”

De Jager explained the outages further, stating, “These outages increased after the last round of loadshedding, which in itself causes disastrous affects to our vulnerable infrastructure. The underground cables in the area are dry as a result of ageing and are therefore prone to insulation failure.

“City Power has, however, committed to investigate areas that experience frequent power outages with a view to raising projects where capital investment may be needed for repairs or replacement.

“In the meantime our technicians are working around the clock to ensure that our residents have a continued supply of electricity.”

He noted that the R133 million Roosevelt Substation refurbishment was progressing according to schedule, and should be complete by September.

“Once this upgrade is complete, a new 88kv line feeding from the Delta Substation will provide greater redundancy and will stabilise the network for the next 20 years,” said De Jager.

“We apologise for the frustration these outages cause residents and assure them that it is receiving our full attention. Technicians are working hard to ensure that power is restored.”
