Tips to use to avoid housebreakings

LINDEN – Linden police have noticed a spike in the number of reported housebreakings.

The spokesperson for the station, Constable Takalani Matumba said, “We have realised that the housebreakings in our area have increased and Linden police would like to issue the following safety tips.”

These tips are intended to assist homeowners and their families and workers in the event that they could become victims of this crime.

The tips are as follows:

• Ensure that your home is locked when you leave and go to bed at night
• Always ask someone you trust to continuously check on your home if you going somewhere for an extended period of time
• Avoid displaying valuable items such as TVs and computers, where criminals cans see them
• Always report suspicious movement and behaviour in your area to the police, your security company or Community Policing Forum
• Avoid leaving any tools in your yard. This includes gardening tools as well
• Double check that your house is properly locked and the alarm is set before leaving the house
• Always report a crime if it happens no matter how big or small and do not tamper with the crime scene before the fingerprint experts come to your house.
