Recovered goods need to be collected

HONEYDEW – Recovered items are currently being held in storage at the station.

Honeydew police are encouraging victims of crime to collect their recovered items that are currently being held in storage at the station.

Honeydew police spokesperson Captain Balan Muthan said, “When we have engaged in operations or have been successful in arresting suspects, we recover numerous items that victims have lost. Sometimes, victims do not collect their stolen property and after a few months, the property gets auctioned off by the State.”

According to Muthan, items range from vehicles to bush-knives, and storage space for the items at the station is limited.

He said, “Obviously, you need to prove that the items are yours before we can give them back. This involves providing some form of proof of ownership.”

Muthan added that the standard way to prove an item was yours was to provide a serial number from a kept product manual.

“We advise the community to keep manuals and product receipts so that if your items are recovered after a crime, you can prove more easily that they are yours.”
