South Africa is a first-hand witness of the global environmental changes, such as the severe thunderstorms,heat waves and sporadic rainfall patterns experienced in Johannesburg.

Society is becoming more environmentally conscious, being aware of the importance of recycling and supporting measures to protect the environment.

Joburg Mayor Herman Mashaba has made sure that during his tenure that recycling and a cleaner city is one of his main priorities with the clean-up initiative aresebetseng.

The Glass Recycling Company recently conducted research among young South Africans aged 15–34 years old, aiming to track recycling and green trends, as well as their perspectives.

It found that 70 per cent of the generational grouping of South Africans expressed a passion for the environment and 80 per cent of the respondents were of the opinion that the environment around their home, city, local parks is being cared for.

The reason to recycle is to not only wanting a cleaner environment, but the company is in support of making glass recycling easy for everyday recyclers and collectors, including creating awareness about glass recycling and how to locate your nearest glass bank.

The goal is to move away from a throw-away culture and into a ‘return-and-renew’ culture which will drastically reduce pollution.
