I Have Talent hosts athletics clinic ahead of new season

PRAEGVILLE – Young athletes get ready for the new athletics season by training at an I Have Talent Athletics Clinic.

PRAEGVILLE – Young athletes ensured that Randburg Sports Complex was abuzz near the end of the school holidays, with the I Have Talent (IHT) Athletics Clinic.

A total of 65 children between the ages of six and 18 put their all into long-jump, high-jump, hurdles, sprints, middle and long-distance running, javelin and shot put, on 5, 8 and 9 January.

“The kids were excited to be back and even though they struggled to get back into training the first half an hour, they loved every second of it,” said Leandri Willis, a managing partner at the club.

“The athletes of IHT have become such good friends and they couldn’t wait to share all of their holiday stories.”

She said coaches focused on skills and technique in the different disciplines, ahead of inter-house athletics meetings different schools will be having soon.

“The schools are pressured for time with the athletics season being so short, so for us to have a clinic before the school started was perfect timing.”

Willis said the academy’s plan this year is to help athletes perform their best, perform well at the School SA Championships in March, to grow in numbers and get the community more involved.

According to Willis, new athletes attended the clinic, and coming from different schools, have helped expose the academy to the community already.

Many of these new athletes have joined the academy.

“We will be hosting more clinics later in the year. We will also be hosting conditioning sessions for different sporting codes throughout the year.”

Willis said community members can stay updated with the goings-on of the academy by following it on Facebook, under the page, I Have Talent Sports Academy https://www.facebook.com/ihtalent1/
