LINDEN – The Johannesburg West Cluster Police arrested 180 suspects for various crimes over the past week.

 

LINDEN – The Johannesburg West Cluster Police enjoyed a massive success after the arrest of 180 suspects over the week.

According to Linden Police Station spokesperson Constable Takalani Matumba, suspects were arrested for various crimes such as attempted murder, rape, assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, housebreaking and theft, house robbery, possession of stolen property, possession of marijuana with intent to deal and possession of other drugs.

Helping to increase the number of arrests for the week, Operation Buya Mthetho kicked off on 17 January with a police parade held at Northgate Shopping Centre with the assistance of the Honeydew Police Station.

The parade was addressed by deputy cluster commander Brigadier Selepe who welcomed and congratulated the new constables deployed in the cluster.

Matumba said, “The operation focused mostly on roadblocks located at Hendrik Potgieter Road, Christiaan de Wet Road, Malibongwe Drive, and also concentrated on Zandspruit were the police are dealing with illegal shebeens.”

The operation was a held in joint with SAPS members, Metro police and the Gauteng Traffic Police, with the successes as follows:

Two suspects found were found to be in possession of drugs, and four were arrested for selling liquor without a license.

During the operation, knives, toys guns, cameras, cell phones, alcohol, sound systems, music players, and computers were seized.
