Christmas message from Ntombi Khumalo

JOBURG – On a course to create professional civil service.

MMC for the Group Corporate and Shared Services, Dr Valencia Ntombi Khumalo writes,

The Group Corporate and Shared Services Department’s vision is for the City to be a ‘well governed professional and efficient city administration’. Our mission is to render professional services and support the City through the provision of an effective Shared Services delivery model to perform optimally.

In the 2016/17 adjustments budget, we initiated the process to recruit an additional 1 500 JMPD officers. The 1 500 recruits started training in October 2017 and will be deployed in the coming months. The insourcing of security personnel and we have started with the insourcing of former Jozi@Work employees at Pikitup.

The City introduced online payslips in October 2018, this is part a drive to transform the City of Johannesburg into a professional and paperless Smart City.

Regarding the long service and service with pride awards, we are well on course to creating a professional civil service that serves the residents of Johannesburg with pride. The City is offering 100 bursaries for the 2019 academic year – the bursary scheme as a strategic mechanism to help students who intend to pursue academic studies at recognised tertiary institutions in South Africa. The scheme funds undergraduate studies to the tune of R25 000 a year.

Our lowlight for this year was the loss of life of our firefighters at the Lisbon building and all the fatalities and injuries to our employees while in the line of duty.

We would like to highlight the following as hero, the new Police Chief, Mr David Tembe, he is achieving a great deal of success through Operation Buya Mthetho (take back the law). Under Chief Tembe’s leadership, JMPD has dramatically increased visible policing and law enforcement activities.

All the service with pride shining stars; the Service with Pride Awards reward the creative achievements and contributions of employees whose work lead to a more effective and responsive government in which I am privileged to lead.

I would like to ask the residents to pay and keep their accounts up to date for the City to be able to continue to serve Johannesburg residents with pride.

Through our recruitment and selection processes which relate to the funded vacancies, we hope we will be able to make strategic appointments on an ongoing basis and fill all the vacant positions and create more employment opportunities for our youth.

I would like to encourage youth to constantly visit our website www.joburg.org.za, and the City’s Facebook and Twitter pages for employment opportunities in the City of Johannesburg.
