The Lighthouse Baby Shelter reflects on 2018

SUNDOWNER – A safe haven for all abandoned youngsters.

The Lighthouse Baby Shelter, established in 2008, is an organisation that takes in abandoned children and cares for them until they are adopted or until they’ve completed their studies.

One of their beautiful highlights during the year was their Mandela Day, where many people and corporations supported them with food and clothing, which they were grateful for.

However, they did have their lows during the year, which was a drop in donations. This resulted in them getting rid of their bus that was used to transport the youngsters.

The founder, Eleanor Duston runs the day-to-day operations and has given her life to the work she does there. She is known as ‘the mother to all the children’.

If they could ask for anything this Christmas it would be a bus.

Their hopes and dreams for next year are that they would be able to continue their work for the communities’ vulnerable and abandoned youngsters.

They take in second-hand clothing, linen, blankets, furniture, toys and food. Anything you don’t need they will take and put to good use.
