Cash Converters store falls victim to armed robbery

DUIKER RIDGE – The second hand goods store was robbed by armed men on 12 November.

Workers at the Cash Converters store in Honeyridge Shopping Centre fell victim to an armed robbery on 12 November.

Around 11am, four armed men entered the second-hand goods store, flashing their guns and smashing the countertops.

“The entire robbery lasted 1 minute and 10 seconds. They swiped the counters clean of everything, including laptops, phones, cameras and knives,” said store owner Vanessa Abrahams.

The men fled the scene in a red Ford Focus.

“I have never seen anyone so aggressive and angry, and I am convinced they were ready to shoot if anyone stepped out of line,” said Abrahams.

According to the owner, the same group of men were at the store on 19 October to ‘case the joint’.

Abrahams continued, “Last month, these guys tried to get to our high-value stock by removing the beading around the counter and we stopped them. That same day at 4pm, the guys were back trying to do the same thing.

“I knew that if they were ever to come back, they would be back with a vengeance.”

She claimed that, even though her staff had taken a knock from the incident, they are staying strong.

“It is hard to have three incidents in one month, and incidents like this are always traumatising, but my staff are troopers and we have come together to support each other like a family.”

According to Abrahams, no injuries were reported during the incident.

The Randburg Sun spoke to the Honeydew Police Station, who claimed that they did not have any information on the incident.
