Protesting unemployed Pikitup workers and other community members barricaded the intersection of Malibongwe Drive and River Road on 8 November.
Burning tyres and rubble were moved in by the protesters to block the road. A heavy police presence was on the scene to monitor the situation.
According to eyewitnesses and community leaders, the police did not open fire on the crowd with rubber bullets or tear gas, with no other injuries reported.
The protest action comes after the workers and community leaders claimed that their demands were not met following a previous protest on 19 October.
