LINDEN – Fallen police officers were honoured at Linden Police Station.
Eleven fallen police officers were honoured at the annual Gauteng South African Police Service commemoration day at Linden Police Station.
Police officials and family member laid wreaths at the provincial Memorial Wall, where the fallen officer’s names were recently etched, at the station.

The South African Police Service Marching Band welcomed the guard of honour, and their choir sang traditional songs.
Acting deputy provincial commissioner, Brigadier IPvH Stoltz said, “The commemoration day is a stark reminder of the price our men and women in blue pay for the safety and security of our nation, and the challenges they face to do so. A total of 11 members, who died in the line of duty during this policing year, were honoured today. As the Gauteng Saps, we send our condolences to their families.
“These fallen heroes’ names are etched into the memorial wall, not only to symbolise our gratitude, but to communicate with future generations that there were once brave men and women with immeasurable honour. We salute their bravery and their valour.”
Linden CPF chairperson Debbie Hanekom said, “Every year Linden hosts this commemoration day, and it serves as out thank you to police members and the great work that they do. It would be great for the community and local businesses to get involved in the upkeep of the memorial site and the commemoration day. A lot of people don’t even realise that this memorial exists.”

A moment of sombreness was heard during the sound of a trumpet playing The Last Post and the lowering of the South African national flag to half-mast.
Learners from Hoërskool Randburg and the King’s School Robin Hills released 11 white doves in a symbol of peace and spirit.
The annual national commemoration month takes place during the first week of September, where a similar ceremony takes place at the Union Buildings in Pretoria.
