Rand Park’s Fast5 netball team undefeated at Saints tournament

LYME PARK – Rand Park High School's Fast5 netball team were undefeated at the St Stithians tournament.

Rand Park High School’s junior Fast5 netball team remained unbeaten to win the St Stithians Fast5 Tournament on 15 October.

The team consisted of U14 and U15 players.

The team’s coach Lize Clay said the Fast5 netball format was proving to be a popular school sport.

She said, “The Fast5 Netball format is fast, exciting and energetic. It allows only five players to be on a team and the game format encourages the players to work smarter, defend better and maximise opportunities presented to them during power play quarters where each goal scored equates to double points.”

On 8 September, Rand Park’s netball players progressed to the Gauteng Fast5 Championships held at EG Jansen following a top-five placement in the Jomo League.

The school placed fourth among 20 schools in their pool and was the only English-medium high school represented at the championships.

The school also participated in the St Stithians Fast5 tournament in September, with the U14 Junior team consisting of Grade 8 learners participating and winning all their games against various private schools.

“Our players have excelled, worked hard and improved their skills. The team has grown in character, sportsmanship, maturity and confidence. They have also had a great deal of fun and their excitement and enthusiasm for the game have been tangible.”
