Young violin virtuoso crowned Kids with Talent SA 2018 winner

RANDBURG – Impressive violin skills led a youngster to be dubbed the overall winner of the Kids with Talent SA 2018 competition.

A Hoërskool Randburg youngster dazzled the judges of the Kids with Talent SA 2018 competition with her impressive violin skills.

Roxanne van Rheede van Oudtshoorn was proclaimed the overall winner at the event held at MiTech Direct in Midrand last month.

This year’s competition saw competitors competing in the age category of six to 18-year-olds, with 1 050 entrants competing.

Roxanne started her violin career at five years old, where she went on to perform her first solo violin performance of Vivaldi accompanied by the KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra at age seven.

From there she engaged in numerous performances with orchestras as a soloist, won many competitions, and played at many weddings and corporate events.

Fast forward to this year where she proved herself worthy as the 1st violin in the National Youth Orchestra.

Kids with Talent SA aims to showcase the musical talents of children from around the country, and to give every child the chance to feel like a star.

Their goal is to have competitions as a tool for every parent and music teacher to motivate, inspire and encourage children.

Africa’s largest music store MiTech is the main sponsor behind the event and venue, as well as the generous donation of prizes to the value of R100 000.

Roxanne is looking forward to all the exciting paths her violin will lead her on next year.
