Tip-off leads to laptop snatcher arrest

STRIJDOM PARK – A man spotted stealing goods from cars on Malibongwe Drive was arrested after a tip-off.

A 40-year-old suspect was arrested by the Randburg police after officers spotted him snatching goods from vehicles on Malibongwe Drive on 20 September.

In the early morning, an officer received information from his informant about a suspicious-looking vehicle parked at the corner of Malibongwe Drive and Lyn Street.

The officer immediately mobilised a team of detectives as well as members of the Crime Information Management and Analysis Centre to observe.

Randburg police spokesperson, Captain Makgowanyana Maja said, “The suspect was spotted moving towards one of the vehicles parked in the vicinity.

The suspect opened the vehicle and took a laptop bag. He retreated back to his getaway vehicle and while trying to flee the scene, he was cornered by responding officers.”

Maja continued, “He was stopped, searched and found in possession of the items taken from the victim’s vehicle. He was arrested and the investigation continues.”

The suspect is expected to appear in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court soon to face charges of theft out of a motor vehicle, possession of car-breaking implements and jamming devices.
