A vision of hope for the Windsor community

WINDSOR – Cresta and Spec-Savers teamed up to help Windsor community members see a bit better.

Cresta Shopping Centre partnered with eye care specialists Spec-Savers and the Tshepo Community Development Initiative to provide test frames and lenses at a minimal cost to the community of Windsor on 14 September.

Spec-Savers Cresta store owner Niki Aifantis helps Windsor community member Elizabeth Phiri try on her brand new pair of glasses at the Windsor East Recreation Centre.

As part of their commitment to the well-being of their shoppers and the community surrounding them, the project came to a culmination at an official handover of the eyewear at the Windsor East Recreational Centre.

The Spec-Savers handover of eyewear took place in celebration of Eye Care Awareness Month, 23 September to 18

October, where the centre supported the drive to educate the broader public on the importance of this initiative.

Gavin Hayes of Project Ngonyama welcomes Cresta Shopping Centre, Spec-Savers and the Windsor community to the spectacle handover ceremony at the Windsor East Recreation Centre.

General manager of Cresta Shopping Centre Virginia Bester said, “Our eyes are the vehicles through which we curate life.

We encourage our shoppers to have their eyes tested regularly, especially now in Eye Care Awareness Month, at any of your eye-care stores.

“Cresta Shopping Centre believes deeply in tangible transformation.

This partnership gives us an opportunity to be involved in a project that empowers individuals and families close to us in our community and allows us to partner with one of our valued tenants to give back in a way that is meaningful.”

The eye tests took place during August, where Gavin Hayes, co-founder of Project Ngonyama that works closely with TCDI and the project manager for this initiative, took the residents for their tests.

“In January, Cresta donated over 5 000 books to our library, donated by shoppers during their festive campaign.

Now, Cresta and their tenant Spec-Savers have made sure our community has the sight they need to get the most from the new library,” said Hayes.

The Cresta Shopping Centre team were excited to be part of the spectacle handover ceremony at the Windsor East Recreation Centre.

Store owner of Spec-Savers Cresta Niki Aifantis said, “Our store prides itself in providing affordable eye care.

As such, it has been a great pleasure being involved in this initiative and helping all beneficiaries by doing what we do best, providing affordable eye care without compromising quality or professional standards.

We thank Cresta Shopping Centre for the opportunity and trust that all recipients will make great use of their spectacles.”
