Baby found alive in black bag

LINDEN – Police arrest woman on charges of concealment of birth.

A domestic worker faces a charge of concealment of birth after she tried to throw her newborn baby boy away.

This occurred on 22 August when the 31-year-old arrived at her place of employment and suddenly developed severe cramps.

She called her employer and told her that she was suffering from cramps and was also bleeding.

Her employer called an ambulance as well as her security service provider, hoping security would arrive before her and assist her domestic worker.

When the paramedics arrived, they found the domestic on her knees, crying and bleeding but they did assist her while trying to investigate what had taken place.

“The domestic worker told her employer that she had missed her period but while helping her, they heard a sound in the garage,” said Constable Takalani Matumba of the Linden Police Station.

“They found the sound was coming from a bin in the garage and when they took out the plastic bag, they found the baby inside the bag.

The umbilical cord was around the baby’s neck and the baby and the mother were rushed to a hospital.”

Sources claim the woman thought the baby she had given birth to had passed away and she was waiting for a Pikitup truck to arrive and dispose of it.

Neither her employer nor the family knew she was pregnant and the father of the baby is not in the picture.

“The baby will be discharged from hospital and placed in the care of the domestic worker’s mother who has been located.

We are asking the community to please assist with any donations they may have such as nappies, baby food and clothing. Even the smallest donation will go a long way in helping this family take care of a baby they had no idea about.”

To assist, please contact Takalani Matumba on 079 880 4955.
