Ann Harding Cheshire Home prepares to break ground for exciting new development

NORTHWOLD – The Ann Harding Cheshire Home aims to build independent living units with 24-hour assistance and care.

A groundbreaking ceremony took place for the exciting new development at the Ann Harding Cheshire Home on 23 August, which aims to position the home as one of the most comprehensive facilities for adults with physical disabilities in South Africa.

The team involved in the groundbreaking new development at the Ann Harding Cheshire Home, stand in front of a digger truck.

Thanks to a donation received recently, the home is finally preparing to break ground, after nearly nine years of planning, with consultants waiting in the wings for six years.

Stage 1 of the development is to build 22 individual living units for people with disabilities.

Chairperson of the Ann Harding Cheshire Home Lyndall Roman stands in front of the digger truck before the groundbreaking, new development at the home.

Chairperson of the Ann Harding Cheshire Home, Lyndall Roman said, “Once this project has been completed, it will be the first of its kind in Africa. These will be independent living units with 24-hour assistance and care.”

Jackie Kyle of the Ann Harding Cheshire Home said, “This will bring the home closer to the international standard of encouraging independence in the disabled community.”

The units are being built off plan, and will be sold on a ‘life rights basis’.

Kyle continued, “This is very exciting for the home, as there are a few current residents who are interested in purchasing units.

The development will also contribute towards long-term sustainability of the home.”

A digger truck clears the first area of soil where new housing units will be built at the Ann Harding Cheshire Home.

Stage 2 of the development will be a comprehensive skills development centre, and a step-down facility, which will begin once the home has managed to raise additional funding.

Kyle added, “The entire project is the brainchild of Lyndall, and has been her dream for the home for many years.

It is thanks to her tenacity and ongoing encouragement from Guy Balderson, that the project is finally coming to fruition.”

Roman wished to thank the team working on the project saying, “A full team of consultants have been assisting with the planning of this development.

The team consists of Gavin Warburton from Gavin Warburton Architects, Jonathan Hardham from Hardham and Hardham Construction, Guy Balderson from Guy Balderson Town Planners, Keith Whitfield from Quad Africa Consulting Electrical Engineers, Vasco Brits from V and H Consulting Structural Engineers, Deon Pinard from Klunene Consulting Civil Engineers, Robbie Robertson from LPB Projects, Louise Tonkin from Louise Tonkin Attorneys and Peter Kurzewski from Tar-Stone.”
