Sundowner shooter excels at the America Grand Trap Shoot in Illinois

SUNDOWNER – Shooter is grateful to community for assistance.

Thanks to the help of Northwold SPAR and the community, shooting ace Jaco Zandberg was able to fulfil his dream of competing in America in August.

Zandberg took part in the America Grand Trap Shoot in Illinois where 6 000 shooters from 15 countries such as England, Brazil, Italy and France competed in the competition.

Zandberg was able to make it to Illinois because of donations from the community as well as the backing of Northwold SPAR that held a raffle to raise funds for the trip.

“I am grateful to each individual who assisted us in making this trip a reality,” said Zandberg.”I can’t put the experience in words but just being there was inspiring and I pushed me to learn more. Being able to chat with other talented shooters and guiding each other was priceless.”

The competition took place from 1 to 11 August and in that time, Zandberg shot 2 600 targets.

This is a new experience for him because so far this year, he has shot just 1 200 targets due to financial constraints.

But this did not deter Zandberg who impressed in the AA category he was placed in for the competition.

In this category, Zandberg managed to place in 74th position out of 4 000 shooters and this experience has lit the fire in his heart.

He now wants to apply all that he has learned in the upcoming provincial championships.
