Protect your home from criminals

LINDEN – Police warn residents in complexes not to be lax about security.

Police have once again warned the community not to be lax about their security, especially those who live in residential complexes.

According to Captain Alex Vermaak, once criminals make it through into the residential complex, they can easily burgle three homes in one night without the residents noticing.

He asked the community to take their security seriously and arm their alarm systems and install burglar bars and security gates for their windows and doors.

“Complexes give people a false sense of security and they drop their vigilance because they think criminals cannot enter,” said Vermaak.

Keep this in mind before going to bed:

  • Check that all doors and windows are locked
  • Keep blinds/curtains closed. Don’t let possible intruders see what’s available and valuable inside your home
  • Never leave extra keys in expected places. Hiding emergency access keys around your home is not a good idea
  • Install panic buttons around the house and keep a few remote panic buttons for when you’re outside
  • Keep emergency numbers within reach at all time.
