Cell phone use in public makes you a target

LINDEN – Police ask the community to do their bit in the fights against crime.

Linden Police Station has taken a no-nonsense approach to crime this Women’s Month.

In just barely a week, the police have arrested nine people for various crimes including fraud, drug possession, common assault and robbery with a firearm.

Linden police spokesperson Constable Takalani Matumba said the station’s officers are working hard to make the community a safer place.

Just last month, Linden police made 84 arrests, proving they are winning the battle against crime.

However, Matumba warned the community to still take precautions and not give criminals an opportunity.

“We urge the community to continue remaining vigilant and take measures to ensure they are not victims of crime,” said Matumba.

Linden police have also, once again, warned the community to refrain from using their cell phones as much as possible when out in the open.

This is because cases of phone snatching have been steadily increasing, despite the police’s continued warnings for the community to be vigilant while on their phones.

Matumba has asked the community to avoid talking on their cell phones as this makes people a target for criminals.

The constable advised the community to keep their phones out of sight and not to walk and text because criminals take advantage while a person is distracted.
