Councillor appeals to Randburg to help with Claremont fire

RANDBURG – A local ward councillor is appealing to the Randburg community to help families affected by informal settlement fire.

Ward 104 councillor Mike Wood is appealing to the Randburg community and businesses to assist more than 250 people who lost their homes in a fire in the Kathrada informal settlement in Claremont.

Almost 100 homes went up in flames in the early morning of 6 August, leaving families without food or shelter.

Wood said, “Over 100 homes were destroyed in the fire and approximately 400 folks are affected. I am appealing to all Randburg residents to help in donating blankets, food, clothing and various types of building material.

“I will be liaising with Susan Stewart, who is the Ward 82 councillor for that area, to provide these goods to them.”
