Blood drive at Curro Aurora

SUNDOWNER – Learners and teachers donate blood.

Curro Aurora Independent School along with the South African National Blood Services (SANBS) hosted a blood drive at the school. Schools are just one of the places the SANBS targets to receive blood donations from those who qualify to do so.

The organisation’s Philly Mahlake said they not only target schools but shopping malls, businesses and other public areas where people frequent.

“The children have been trickling in and we are encouraging all young learners to be active and donate blood if they can. It saves lives,” said Mahlake.

His sentiments were echoed by school teacher Hein Dinkelmann who led by example and also donated blood. He has done so more than 30 times in his life.

“It is the right thing to do and it saves lives plus I’ve had family members that needed blood so it is close to my heart. In my life I have donated between 30 and 40 times,” said Dinkelmann.

Molemo Menyatse in Grade 11 was also happy to donate blood and said it is because it is a good deed that will help others.

“The reason why I am donating blood is that my uncle passed away because he could not find a blood donor and that has affected me since,” said Menyatse.
