Come one, come all to Delta Park School’s fundraising gala

DELTA PARK – Delta Park School will aim to raise much-needed funds for the school and its youngsters.

Delta Park School will be hosting a fun-filled and star-studded gala event aimed at raising much-needed funds for the school and its children.

The school currently has a school fee exemption rate of 48%, with school fee exemptions governed by the South African School’s Act, calculated based on the annual gross income of parents. The school has a huge ‘shortfall’ on school fee income.

As a result of this significant school fee exemption rate, Delta Park School will be hosting a gala evening on the 6th September this year to raise funds.

The aim of the gala evening is to launch the uBuntu@Delta Sponsorship Programme for the youngsters that are not able to pay school fees. The event will also demonstrate what Delta Park School children are capable of and showcase the enormous potential they hold.

Principal Dr Hannetjie Britz said, “We would like to encourage companies and/or people in their personal capacity to sponsor learners’ school fees starting from 2019 and beyond.”

The uBuntu@Delta event was started by Occupational Therapist Catherine Hauvette and was established as a result of the financial situation that Delta Park School finds itself in.

“It is an incredible privilege to be able to help the learners and parents from Delta Park School that need it. This programme is trying to bridge the gap in the community by giving support to create equal opportunity,” Hauvette said.

Britz quoted Desmond Tutu when speaking about the event saying, “‘You can’t be human by yourself, and when you have this quality ‘uBuntu’ you are known for your generosity.’ We think of ourselves far too frequently as just individuals, separated from one another whereas you are connected and what you do affects the world.”

The school’s hospitality learners will be making and serving the welcome drinks and a select few will also be waiters during the evening.

Delta Park School alumni youngster, Jacques TerréBlanche will be entertaining everyone for the evening and TerréBlanche has also agreed to sing with current Delta Park School learners who show enormous talent.

Former Bafana Bafana captain Lucas Radebe will also be giving a motivational speech on the evening.

Britz said, “Even the smallest contribution will help the teachers and therapists at Delta Park School make a difference in the lives of the learners that need it.

We would really appreciate your involvement in our Sponsorship Programme and Gala event.”

Members of the public are strongly encouraged to join the gala evening, which will be hosted in the school’s hall and includes a three-course dinner on the night. Tickets will be sold at R500 per person.
