Ferndale on Republic builds business excitement for ward councillors

PRESIDENT RIDGE – Local ward councillors share their excitement about Ferndale on Republic centre which is currently in development.

Local ward councillors were invited to the groundbreaking ceremony of Ferndale on Republic on 31 July.

Ferndale on Republic is the newly renamed and currently in development shopping centre on the property of the old Brightwater Commons.

Ward 104 councillor Mike Wood said, “I think this is an exciting initiative. Simply seeing the latest unemployment figures that have recently come out, lets you know that any initiative to Randburg, in particular, to boost the economy and generate more jobs has to be welcomed.”

Built in 1994, the Randburg Waterfront and Brightwater Commons, as it was known in the past, has gone through numerous changes to revitalise the centre.

Ward 102 councillor David Potter said, “I have made use of the centre since it was established many years ago, since the times of the then Randburg Waterfront, then as Brightwater Commons, and look forward to using it as Ferndale on Republic.”

Wood added, “I feel that this is the ultimate change the centre needs. Changes in the past proved to be a bit rocky, but we have finally arrived at a vision for a deserved upmarket shopping centre that can serve thousands of people in the surrounding area.

“This initiative is putting the business spotlight back on both David and my ward, and we wish the developers the very best.”

According to Potter, “The relaunch of Ferndale on Republic is incredible for Ward 102. We hope that it will bring back and attract major anchor tenants along with other great tenants for the centre.

“Urban Brew’s move to Ferndale on Republic, expanding on their previous space, is a great addition to support the growing audio and television industry in the ward, alongside Multichoice and others.”
