Trinityhouse Preparatory and High School Randpark Ridge took part in its annual 67 Minutes Mandela Day initiatives.
The school participated in a soup-making initiative where children washed, peeled and grated various vegetables.
Robyn Aingworth, marketing officer for the school said once the veggies were grated and collected, they were taken home by a number of generous parents who made delicious soup.
“Sunbake donated 100 loaves of bread which were added to the 100 loaves donated by the school,” she explained, adding that during assembly on 20 July, the preparatory school handed over 686 litres of vegetable soup and 200 loaves of bread to Kids Haven.
The high school supported Mandela Day by collecting lunch packs and beanies.
“The 1 606 lunch packs were prepared and donated to 20 different schools in Zandspruit, KyaSands, Cosmo City and other areas and 412 beanies were also donated, ” explained Aingworth.
A number of teachers and children dropped off the items at the various schools and were welcomed by many happy, smiling faces.
“It was great to see all the pupils, staff and parents supporting Mandela Day and getting involved in making a difference in the community.”
