Operation Buya Mthetho takes seven unroadworthy taxis off our roads

PRAEGVILLE – The JMPD took these taxis to the Randburg Testing Station where some were confiscated and others fined.

Seven unroadworthy taxis were taken to the Randburg Testing Station on 26 July during Operation Buya Mthetho.

This is a daily operation lead by the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD), which various other departments of the City take part in that tackle bylaw infringements.

JMPD inspects the taxis to check their roadworthiness.

Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar of the JMPD said all the taxis were tested and all were found to be unroadworthy.

“Some had defective braking systems, others had broken seats and expired licence discs,” he said.

Minnaar added that traffic fines from R250 to R500 were issued to the taxi drivers and those with expired licence discs were confiscated.

“The taxis will first have to be repaired before they can be taken for roadworthy tests to get licensed again.”
