SUNDOWNER – Curro Aurora's cheerleading teams show off their skills.

Curro Aurora’s award-winning cheerleading teams put on a spectacular display for the rest of their school on 27 July.

The display commenced with a performance for the national champion primary school all-girls team, Curro Aurora Stardust, followed by a performance from the high school cheerleading team, the Curro Blues.

The cheerleading exhibition was not like a typical cheerleading demonstration at a rugby match, with pom-poms and songs. This was a display of modern cheerleading, comprising lots of exciting gymnastics and basket tosses.

Head of primary school sports Levi Martin said, “Today is an exhibition of some of the quality coaches we have been able to work alongside with as we grow the sport in this school.

The high school has been involved in competing in cheerleading for the past two years, and the competition this year has really set a benchmark for quality cheerleading results.”

According to Martin, this type of cheerleading takes many hours of practise to work towards precise perfection and skill. “At our school, cheerleading at an internal level has become highly competitive.”

Each year, the school has over 120 youngsters competing for a spot in the cheer teams.

Martin added, “I would like to thank Curro for providing a platform for youngsters to develop these skills and grow the sport starting at the primary school level.”
