Amelia Daycare gets a makover

BLAIRGOWRIE – One Small Act of Kindness brought some Madiba magic to Amelia Daycare in Windsor East.

As July was Mandela Month, many community members, companies and organisations spent 67mins doing charitable gestures for those in need. One such organisation was One Small Act of Kindness’ members spent their 67mins at Amelia Daycare in Windsor East.

On the day, the group repainted the daycare’s various rooms and its playground.

The group does its best to do good for others. They hold various drives and initiatives to help families and charities in need.

So, when Mandela Day rolled in they made sure they showed the children of the daycare just how important they are.

A jubilant crowd of One Small Act of Kindness volunteers and members celebrate after a productive day of giving at Amelia Daycare in Windsor East.

Kelly-Ann van der Meer, a member of the group, said they undertake various projects but their main one was assisting the daycare and giving them this much-needed makeover. Through this kind gesture, about 60 children would enjoy the makeover.

She said the day was an important one to take part in because education was important to Mandela and an integral part of his life and campaigns, “So it was very fitting to carry on his legacy by helping a deserving school in need,” Van der Meer said.

This would be the first kind act the group has done for the daycare, they have previously given small items such as stationery and bread.

Van der Meer said the group looks to continually assist various schools in different communities to ensure every child has an equal opportunity to grow and learn to their full potential.

Along with the group’s volunteers, Pizza Del Forno Blairgowrie and Growing Champions Paintcor helped make this day a resounding success. Van der Meer expressed this project had a special meaning to all who were involved.
