This is why it is crucial that you know who your local ward councillor is.
Although these councillors are often scrutinised by often frustrated residents, they still play an active role in what affects their communities.
City councillor Graham de Kock recently explained duties of ward councillors and said that while residents do not vote directly on council decisions, the councillor is mandated to take upon themselves the views of the residents and amplify the community’s voice in council.
