A fun visit to the little ones of Masakhane-Tswelelopele Primary School on Mandela Day brought with it boerewors rolls, snacks and a ‘pawsome’ surprise.
The Network of Caring organisation devoted their time on 18 July to engage with the schoolchildren of Masakhane-Tswelelopele Primary School.
The non-governmental organisation’s Jacqui Salmon said, “Every year, we bring our volunteers into Zandspruit for Mandela Day to spend some time with children and have some fun.”
Volunteers worked tirelessly the entire morning to butter rolls and cook boerewors rolls to make lunch for the children. The organisation also gathered donations to give party packs filled with sweets and other snacks to the little ones.
The highlight of the day for the youngsters was when a few volunteers dressed up as ‘Paw Patrol’ characters, moving from classroom to classroom, singing and dancing with the children.
Salmon said, “Mandela was an icon that brought the nation together and one of the things he cared about most was the children. As the Network of Caring, this is one of the things that we stand for too.”
Masakhane-Tswelelopele Primary School principal Francis Maponyane said, “We are so blessed as a school to have so many volunteers come in and assist us on Mandela Day.
“We appreciate all the help that we can get, and we are so thankful to everyone who has contributed today. We use the words ‘Mandela Day’, but devoting your time and energy should not stop there. What these children really need is help on a regular basis.”
