Scuffle breaks out as Duduzane Zuma appears in court

RANDBURG – BLF members cause chaos outside the Randburg Magistrates' Court.

When Duduzane Zuma appeared in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court on charges of culpable homicide, it was the drama afterwards that piqued everyone’s interest.

Members of the Black First Land First movement clashed with AfriForum CEO Kallie Kriel and a journalist with shouts of ‘Go back to Europe’.

BLF members prevented Kriel from addressing the media, and got into his face and asserted that the court case was about Zuma and the death of two people in his 2014 car crash and should not be politicised.

Kriel was eventually led away by Randburg police officers after it was clear BLF members were not going relent and let him inside the court.

It was during a scuffle with Kriel BLF spokesperson Lindsay Maarsdorp was cut on the lip and he alleged that a journalist had punched him.

Maarsdorp and his BLF members, followed by their leader Andile Mngxitama, tried to attack a journalist. Their faces were distorted with rage and Maarsdorp had to be held back and stopped from attacking the journalist.

A journalist who was threatened by BLF members had to be protected by security and fellow journalists. The situation was so chaotic that we could not get his name.

There were calls to have the journalist arrested and he had to be escorted away by police.

Mngxitama asked journalists not to be biased and report the truth, and not target his movement because they are pushing for radical economic transformation.

He will appear in court again on August 23.
