Cold weather arrives in Joburg
RANDBURG – Low temperatures expected as cold front arrives.
Temperatures are set to drop this week across most of the Gauteng province including the City of Johannesburg. The City’s Emergency Management Services is concerned that low temperatures will see residents rely on heating and lighting appliances to try and warm themselves.
Due to the cold front expected, the City’s EMS spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi said they would remain on high alert to ensure they were able to respond to any emergency that may occur.

“The main focus will be on our 189 informal settlements throughout the city since they are the most vulnerable to fire incidents when we have cold weather conditions due to the heating devices they use when we have cold weather conditions,” said Mulaudzi.
The City’s Disaster Management Centre will be fully operational throughout the weekend and Disaster Management Monitoring teams have been dispatched to all seven regions of the city to monitor any eventuality which might occur.
Residents of informal residential areas are asked not to leave their heaters unattended while in use to avoid fire incidents.
