BOSKRUIN – A local ward councillor has been nominated as a candidate for Gauteng premier ahead of the DA's 2019 election campaign.

Ward 134 councillor Wendy Alexander is excited to be nominated as a candidate for Gauteng premier ahead of the Democratic Alliance’s (DA) 2019 election campaign.

“This Friday, we received a total of 31 applications from premier candidates across the country,” DA federal council chairperson James Selfe said in a statement.

“These nominees will appear before selection panels in their respective provinces and a candidate will be selected from the process.”

Alexander won the newly demarcated Ward 134 in the 2016 Local Government Elections. The upcoming provincial election is set to take place early next year.

The two large metros of Johannesburg and Tshwane are currently led by the DA and its coalition partners, and their goal in the next election is for the DA to become the biggest political party in the province.

With an honours degree from the University of Pretoria, Alexander is the deputy chairperson of the Johannesburg Regional Selection Panel and the chairperson of the Political Support Cluster, within the DA Johannesburg caucus.

Alexander said, “After an eight-year career within the marketing and brand activations [industry], I fought my first local government election and won. I continue to strive to bring about real change to the people of Johannesburg by building an inclusive city with a thriving economy.”

She added that when she was not serving the residents of her ward and the community of Johannesburg, she was a devoted wife, mother and activist.

Ward 134 includes parts of North Riding, Northgate, parts of Boskruin, Randpark Ridge and Sundowner.
