Preparing littlies for next phase

RANDPARK RIDGE – Trinityhouse High School Randpark Ridge hosts a weekly outreach set to cater to the needs of children heading to Grade 1 next year.

As Nelson Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

Trinityhouse Randpark Ridge High School’s Kya Sands outreach aims to improve the lives of Grade 0 children who attend Build the Future School by equipping them with what they need for Grade 1.

The school’s marketing officer, Robyn Aingworth said that by educating children from a young age we can all help towards bettering our communities and reducing poverty in South Africa.

She added that Trinityhouse strives to improve the skills of the Grade 0s who attend the school in Kya Sands to ensure they are able to better cope with Grade 1 the following year. “This outreach takes place weekly, on a Tuesday afternoon, when the children are transported to the school by one of the Trinityhouse buses.”

Aingworth said the children have lots of fun participating in the activities which aim to improve both academic and sports skills. At the end of the session, each child receives a snack and a juice, and returns home, having acquired a new skill.

According to her, the outreach is not only beneficial to these children but also to all who are involved. “It teaches us to develop compassion and empathy, which is much needed to bring joy to those around us.”
