RISIDALE – Around 800 people made their way to the family day at Emma Park.

The day was organised by Die Voortrekkers – Oord Goudrand, a region of the cultural movement aimed at children to become better and skilled citizens, and involves the Voortrekker Vriendelik Ondernemings, or local businesses, that promoted their products and services.

The day also commemorated 80 years since the famous Voortrekker Johanna van der Merwe’s ox wagon was brought to Emma Park where the Johannes van der Merwe Voortrekker Monument now stands.

Karel Landman, one of the babies that were baptised at the monument, also joined the fun. He shared a message, specifically aimed at young ones in light of Youth Day.

“You were wonderful today and I appreciated riding on the ox wagon this morning. You are on the right path, keep on that track.”

The region’s leader, Chaleen Strydom, told Northcliff Melville Times the funds raised on the day will go towards the community’s needs, especially towards helping to upgrade Emma Park.
