Amos bids farewell after 11 years

BLAIRGOWRIE – Groundskeeper retires from the school

After 11 years of service, one of Blairgowrie Primary School’s groundskeepers, Amos Nkosi, is calling it a day.

Nkosi is bidding farewell to his colleagues to start a new life in Matabeleland in Zimbabwe. The 60-year-old, who was praised for his green thumbs, is leaving because of poor health. As Nkosi is an avid supporter of local soccer, the school gifted him with an Orlando Pirates Football Club jersey with his name on it.

It was a festive farewell for Amos Nkosi at Blairgowrie Primary School’s assembly.

“I started here in 2007 and one of the funniest moments is when the teachers tried a vegetable garden behind the hall,” said Nkosi.

“When I went to check, they had planted all the seeds in almost the same spot, how the veg would have grown, I don’t know.”

With a passion for the garden, Nkosi will start a vegetable garden once he is home and will spend his time planting different varieties of vegetables. “I am also planning to have a borehole in my vegetable garden,” he said.

“But, I would like to say thank you to everyone who has worked with me at the school and to let them know that I will miss them very much.”
