It’s time to climb

FONTAINEBLEAU – The time has come to try your hand at sport climbing.

If you are an adrenaline junkie, enjoy trying new things or even have a fear of heights you want to overcome, then this is for you.

CityRock Johannesburg is hosting an exciting open weekend for anyone interested at trying out sport climbing.

Katleho Pobe is a member of the South African lead and boulder sport climbing teams, and he trains at CityRock Johannesburg.

The Fontainebleau venue will oversee free climbing introduction courses on the hour every hour from 23 to 24 June.

Free yoga classes will also be held at the venue, with no joining fee to sign up as a member of the group.

For the climbing, however, if you do not own your own gear you will need to rent from CityRock at R90 for shoes and a harness.

CityRock’s assistant gym manager, Tyler Morrissey said sport climbing was fun, provided an excellent workout and was hugely satisfying.

“There is no danger while climbing the walls but you still feel some fear of falling,” he said.

“Once you reach the top you get a big feeling of achievement, and you can overcome your fear of height in this way too.”

Booking for the introductory courses is required. Send an email to johannesburg@cityrock.co.za to secure your spot.

The venue is at 46 4th Avenue South, Fontainebleau.
