Randburg’s best potjie

NORTHWOLD – All proceeds will go to the Lighthouse Baby Shelter

The Randburg Sun and Northwold Spar hosted a Father’s Day potjie competition on 16 June. This was to find out who was the king of the potjie and all proceeds from the day went to Lighthouse Baby Shelter. Participants arrived at Northworld Spar armed with their ingredients and potjie pots while their hopes of winning lay in the community’s hands.

The community was invited to stop by at Northwold Spar for a taste of the participants’ potjies, give a donation, and then vote for a winner. Hours of hard work went into each potjie as participants laboured to ensure they came out on top.

The community was entertained by local musicians while children had a jumping castle all to themselves. The children from the shelter showed their support for the different participants and cheered for them while cooling off with free ice-cream from Dairymaid.

The Lighthouse Baby Shelter was present at Northwold Spar.

After the votes were tallied, Shirley Shackleford and her team was in third place and won a R200 Spar voucher, while Robert and Paul McGill won second place and won a R500 Spar voucher. The Boemels and Boodhun Biltong Potjie team won the competition and received a R2 000 Spar voucher along with other prizes.

On the day, R5 500 was raised for the Lighthouse Baby Shelter.
