Rand Park High School’s Grade 9 student Isabella Smith has been making waves in contemporary singing and solo dance competitions.

As an all-rounder, she participated in the provincial rounds of the South African Talent Championship and was selected to compete in the National Championships from 30 September to 5 October.

She said, “I have been singing my entire life, and I have been professionally coached for the past five years now.”

For all of the ‘A’ competitions that she has entered, such as the national eisteddfod, she has only received gold medals and diplomas.

In dancing, she received numerous awards in categories such as best African jazz dancer and placed seventh overall in the Northern Gauteng district for her singing.

“My favourite songs to sing are slow, contemporary ballads, and I am really excited to sing in the competition,” she continued.

Isabella will be competing in the South African Talent Championship Nationals, which she said she is really excited to compete in.

She said, “If I can perform well enough in the tournament, it can qualify me to go overseas to compete next year.”

Isabella aims to take her skills to the global stage and compete in competitions in Britain and America in the next few years.
