RANDPARK – Rand Park High School's Grade 9 learner, Olivia Davies is making a name for herself in the performing arts.

Rand Park High School’s Grade 9 learner, Olivia Davies is making a name for herself in the performing arts.

Olivia has been in school dramas since Grade 1, but as she says, “I really got serious about my passion for drama last year when I began private coaching.”

She participated in the South African Championships of Performing Arts in Randburg during the Easter holidays, which was a qualifier for the provincial tournament.

At the provincials, anyone who obtained a gold medal qualified for the South African team, which will be going to Los Angeles to compete in the Talent America contest later on this year.

“The performing arts are a great outlet for my artistic expression, and I have had a lot of fun performing in our major production, City of Stars.”

City of Stars was an original production from the school, and as principal Alan Wilke said, “Our pupils worked long and hard for many months to put this show together. The show was filled with dynamic students who love dance, drama, music and so much more.”

Even though she has qualified for this year’s tournament, Olivia said, “I personally have decided to attend the competition next year, where I will be able to enter into a higher age category. Currently, I am in the U13 category, but my goal for next year is to enter into the age group where I can learn a lot more from the people around me.”
