Rand Park dancer has her sights set on Russia

RANDPARK – A young dancer has her hopes set on dancing on an international stage.

A teenager has set her hopes high and wants to dance on international stages.

Kayla Rachstein, in Grade 9 at Rand Park High School, has been dancing since she was four years old.

Now she has big dreams for the end of the year for a dance competition in Russia.

“In December this year I will hopefully be going overseas to perform in Serbia, and the build-up to that will be a lot of exams, trials and intense preparation.”

Recently, Kayla obtained her Federation Provincial Colours in performing arts.

She says she has a passion for contemporary, modern and ballet dancing, and is also a dancer for the Jozi Youth Dance Company.

An excited Rachstein spoke about her experience at the dance company and said, “We recently put on a production called Domain, and we will be leaving for the Grahamstown Arts Festival to showcase it at the end of June.”

Commenting on who inspires her to pursue her dreams, Kayla said, “My dance teacher, Jade Swart, is my true inspiration.

She doesn’t dance anymore as she had an injury onstage a few years ago, but her teaching is absolutely amazing.”
