Kicking it at Laerskool Fontainebleau’s Barefoot Festival

FONTAINEBLEAU – Barefoot children are happy children at this festival

Tired of having an ordinary fete, Laerskool Fontainebleau kicked off their new school festival aptly named the Kaalvoet Fees (Barefoot festival) on 26 May.

The all-day festival included food stalls and games but the biggest draw for the children was the soapbox derby competition between all the school grades.

Cherize Nel and Robyn Bekker spread cheer at the Barefoot Festival.

For the parents, it was not only seeing their children having fun but also watching musical artists such as Charl V, Tertius van Tonder, Piet Pompies and Anchen Groenewald perform on stage.

Madelia Hall, the organiser of the event was happy with the turnout and wants the festival to grow from strength to strength.

“We want a festival that is unique to us that the community can enjoy,” said Hall.

“These days, all the children wear shoes and you never see them running around barefoot anymore. So we decided that since it is for children, let’s make it a barefoot festival. We want our children to feel the earth again and have fun.”
